Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
University of Asia Pacific Journal of Law & Policy
UAP Journal of Law and Policy is a peer-reviewed journal. This statement regulates ethical behaviour of all parties involved in the act of publishing an article and is based on the COPE’s Codes of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines.
Duties of Authors
- Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure their work is original. If others’ work or words are used, they must be cited or quoted properly.
- Multiple Publications: Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently is unethical.
- Acknowledgement of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of influential works must always be given.
- Authorship of the Paper: Only those who contributed significantly to conception, design, execution, or interpretation should be listed as authors.
- Corresponding Author: Must ensure all co-authors are included, approve the final version, and agree to submission.
- Acknowledgment of Funding Sources: All sources of research funding must be disclosed.
- Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Any financial or personal conflicts must be disclosed.
- Fundamental Errors: Authors must notify editors if a significant error is found and cooperate to correct or retract.
Duties of Reviewers
- Contribution of Peer Review: Assists editors in making decisions and helps authors improve their work.
- Unqualified to Review / Promptness: Reviewers must decline if unqualified or unable to review promptly.
- Confidentiality: Manuscripts must be treated as confidential documents.
- Standards of Objectivity: Reviews must be objective and constructive, without personal criticism.
- Acknowledgement of Sources: Reviewers should ensure uncited but relevant work is referenced and report overlaps with published works.
- Conflict of Interest: Reviewers should not review manuscripts where they have conflicts of interest.
Duties of Editors
- Decision on Publication: Editors decide which articles are published, based on journal policy and peer review.
- Fair Play: Manuscripts are evaluated solely on intellectual merit.
- Confidentiality: Editors must not disclose manuscript information except to those involved in the review process.
- Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Unpublished materials must not be used for editors’ own research without author consent.
